Legodi and Lourens reflect on ICC U19 women’s T20 world cup semifinal journey
The South Africa U19 Women have secured their place in the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025 semifinals, with one Super Six match still to play against USA on Tuesday at 4:30am CAT (GMT+2).
This achievement marks a significant step forward for SA, who fell short of a semifinal spot in the inaugural ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup held at home in 2023, missing out due to net run rate.
The team’s consistent excellence in this year’s tournament highlights their determination and growth, with performances that have showcased competitive edge on the global stage.
They began their campaign with an impressive victory over New Zealand and continued their dominance by defeating Samoa and Nigeria in Group C.
A confident win over Ireland in their first Super Six fixture further solidified their position in the tournament.
Titans duo, Monalisa Legodi and Simoné Lourens have played pivotal roles in the team’s success and shared their thoughts on the team’s journey, preparation, and the upcoming match.
EXCITED
Legodi shared her excitement about the team’s achievements:
“Reaching the semifinal of the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup is an incredible achievement! It feels amazing to be competing with the best teams in the world, and it's a testament to the hard work we’ve put in. While we’re thrilled to have made it this far, we know the job isn’t done yet. Our focus remains on giving our best in every match ahead.
“We’ve been taking it one game at a time, analysing our performances, and learning from every match. There’s a real sense of unity in the squad, and we’ve stayed positive while working hard to remain composed under pressure.
“Mentally, I focus on staying calm and clear about my role in the team, while physically ensuring I’m prepared through proper warm-ups and mental readiness. In key moments, it’s all about trusting my training and staying present in the game,” said Legodi.
Lourens reflected on the team’s journey and what lies ahead:
“It feels incredible to have reached the semifinals, and I’m so grateful for this opportunity. It’s a major milestone and we’ve worked tirelessly to get here. There’s a mix of excitement and focus as we prepare for what we know will be tougher challenges ahead.
“Our mindset has been all about staying grounded and taking it one game at a time. While we’re proud of our performances so far, we know the importance of consistency and sticking to our plans.
“For me, staying calm under pressure is key. I focus on playing each ball on its merit and not getting overwhelmed by the moment. Trusting my preparation and the hard work leading up to this World Cup has been vital. The support from my family at home, my batting partner Jemma Botha, and the entire team has given me so much confidence,” said Lourens.
