AmaTuks and Baroka stumble in promotion chase

The race for places in the PSL Promotion play-offs will go down to the final game of the 2023/24 Motsepe Foundation Championship after the University of Pretoria and Baroka recorded draws in their penultimate league assignments.

With Magesi already promoted to the topflight of South African football, second and third place remain up for grabs going into the final match week of the campaign.

Pretoria Callies and AmaTuks shared the spoils in a 1-1 stalemate at the TUT Stadium on Sunday and ended the latest game week on 48 points after 29 games.

Sitting in third position, Baroka and JDR Stars recorded a 1-1 draw at the Global Stadium this weekend.

As it stands, Baroka remain two points behind the University of Pretoria, while the likes of JDR Stars and Maritzburg United remain in line to finish in PSL Promotion play-off positions.

Elsewhere, Maritzburg United and Platinum City Rovers fired blanks in a 0-0 draw at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on Sunday.

Following the latest round of fixtures, fourth-placed JDR Stars remain level on points with Baroka (46), while the Team of Choice are three points off a PSL Promotion play-off spot.
