Betway SA20 Unveils Match Officials Panel for Season 3
Betway SA20 has announced an experienced panel of match officials for Season 3 starting in Gqeberha on Thursday. The panel consists of 21 match officials, including 16 umpires and five match referees, overseeing the League's group match phase.
Heading the expanded umpire’s panel is the internationally renowned Marais Erasmus. The veteran’s illustrious career includes officiating in close to 400 tests, one-day internationals and T20 Internationals across both men's and women’s cricket.
South Africa’s leading female match officials Lauren Agenbag and Shandre Fritz will continue to break barriers in Season 3. Agenbag, a pioneering umpire, has added to her already impressive CV by becoming one of the most experienced umpires in Women’s T20 International cricket after standing in the recent ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Final 2024.
Fritz, a former Proteas Women captain, will again bring her expertise to the match referee ranks, boasting a record of 148 international matches in the position. Fritz will be joined in this year’s Match Referees list by colleagues Barry Lambson, Laurence Matroos, Zed Ndamane, and Gerrie Pienaar.
The League's ongoing Umpire Exchange Programme with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) welcomes James Middlebrook, who will officiate in four matches during the competition’s exciting third chapter.
Erasmus and Middlebrook will work alongside members of Cricket South Africa’s (CSA) Elite Umpires Panel, which includes four officials from the ICC Elite Panel in Lubabalo Gcuma, Stephen Harris, Bongani Jele, and Allahudien Paleker, who was named CSA’s Umpire of the Year for the 2023/24 season.
The opening match takes place this evening (09 January) at St George’s Park in Gqeberha, with the two-time defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape taking on MI Cape Town at 17:30 SAST.
