Zijlaard wins tricky Tour of Romandy prologue

Dutch rider Maikel Zijlaard won the opening prologue of the Tour of Romandy on Tuesday on a tiny but treacherous downtown route laced with tight corners.

The Tudor rider took 2min 55sec, finishing 1sec ahead of Cameron Scott and 2sec ahead of Frenchman Julian Alaphilippe.

Team UAE's Adam Yates won last year’s edition ahead of recent Visma signing Matteo Jorgenson and Bahrain rider Damiano Caruso.

There are two hilly stages, two mountainous ones and another individual time trial in a tour that ends on Sunday.
