Lennox Lewis in SA for big Fight Night

Boxing royalty in the form of erstwhile Undisputed Heavyweight Champion of the world, Lennox Lewis, is in South Africa.

The three-time former Heavyweight Champion will be in attendance and handing over the winner’s belt during the Golden Gloves Fight Night happening at 19:00 on 06 December 2024 at Emperors Palace dubbed “Rivalry Reloaded”, which will be broadcast live on Your World of Champions, SuperSport.

The Fight Night will feature South African, Roarke Knapp, taking on Adones Cabalquinto of the Philippines at junior-middleweight.

Knapp will be looking for redemption as he returns to the scene of his most recent defeat, whereas the highly experienced southpaw, Cabalquinto, comes into the fight boasting a record of 16 knockouts in 26 wins, setting the stage for a spectacular clash.

Additionally, Siya Kuse and Beaven “Flame of Zimbabwe” Sibanda will contest the WBC Silver strawweight championship in what is bound to be a thrilling bout between two dynamic fighters.

Ranked 15th and 5th respectively by the WBC, neither one of the competitors will be underestimating the other in a fight that seems certain to generate much fanfare.

‘BOX OFFICE FEEL’

Having Lewis present, a giant of the sport, during Friday night’s event has added extra incentive for competitors to go all out in the presence of the last British heavyweight boxer to unify the world title belts.

“We are thrilled to be a part of this historic moment, not least because SuperSport broadcast many of Lennox’s big fights over two decades ago,” says SuperSport CEO Rendani Ramovha.

“The action in the ring come Friday night is poised to be thrilling for our viewers. But the presence of Lennox Lewis gives it that true box-office feel.”

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

In the lead-up to the exhilarating Fight Night, SuperSport will be hosting a press conference at the famed Brian Mitchell Boxing Club in Edenvale, Johannesburg, on Friday 06 December 2024 at 13:00, where Lewis and Golden Gloves will be making a special announcement.

In the welterweight division, two South African welterweights Keanu Koopman and Bonke Duku go to battle for the South African Welterweight Title as the co-main event.

As one of the curtain raisers leading to the main event, the International Super Welterweight belt will be on the line over a six-round bout when Kestna Davis of the USA takes on South Africa’s Pieter de Klerk. A protégé of Lewis, Davis goes into the fight undefeated with the Jamaican set to face a stern challenge when he trades blows with De Klerk.

With these and many other tantalising fights to look forward to, “Rivalry Reloaded” promises to be a humdinger of a night.

Set to be broadcast on your World of Champions on Variety 3 and the Action Channel in SA as well as the Action channel for the Rest of Africa region, coverage of all the fights will start at 19:00 (CAT) on Friday 06 December 2024.
