Cape Town City have signed former Orlando Pirates midfielder Mpho Makola, the club confirmed on Tuesday.

Makola arrives as a free agent after negotiating his release from Pirates earlier this month, having fallen out of favour with coach Micho Sredojevic.

He will add to the midfield options of coach Benni McCarthy, who had told the media of his desire to sign the player last week.

Makola is the fourth signing for the club in this window after defender Abbubaker Mobara (Orlando Pirates), striker Tashreeq Morris (Ajax Cape Town) and winger Bernio Verhagen (Dinamo Tiraspol, Moldova).

The 33-year-old could make his debut for City when they open their Absa Premiership campaign away at Baroka FC on Saturday.
