Munetsi gets contract extension in France
Zimbabwe international Marshall Munetsi, who moved from Orlando Pirates to France last year, has won a contract extension at Ligue 1 club Stade Reims.
The club said at the weekend that Munetsi has now been tied down to a deal which keeps him at Reims until 2024.
The 23-year-old, who has been playing as midfielder in France but also appeared for Pirates as a central defender, appeared 21 times in all competitions this season in the Reims jersey and delivered two assists.
He moved last year in a 200 000 euros deal from Pirates.
“Marshall was our first recruit in the last summer transfer window. He responded at the time to the needs which had been defined by the technical staff, who wanted an athletic player capable of performing both in central defence or as a midfielder,” Reims president Jean-Pierre Caillot told the sports daily L’Equipe on Sunday.
“This contract extension validates a promising first season. It touches me all the more since I know all the additional work that the player has put in to seize his chance.”
The club tweeted: “In just one season, he has won over the whole club! An impact player and a man of value, @MarshallMunetsi continues the adventure with Reims.”
