Mosimane wary of 'tough customers' Highlands Park

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has warned his side to be ready for “giant-killers” Highlands Park when the teams clash in the Absa Premiership on Friday evening.

The match will be a third in seven days for Sundowns, who returned last weekend with a 3-2 victory over BidVest Wits in the Nedbank Cup semifinals, which was followed by a 0-0 draw with Orlando Pirates in the league on Tuesday.

Highlands were in fact the last team Sundowns faced before lockdown, claiming a 1-0 extra-time victory in the Nedbank Cup quarterfinals on 14 March, and Mosimane is all too aware of their battling qualities.

"Highlands, ask any team in the PSL, they are tough customers,” Mosimane said. “They are also a giant-killer, you must know that. It is a team that is very strong, works very hard and is very committed. A team that we all know you earn your win.

"You can't just win [against them], you have to fight and sometimes playing Highlands is more than the tactics, it is more the emotional side.”

Mosimane admits his team have yet to get into top gear since the restart, but feels they will get there.

"We have played two games, the semifinal, in which we achieved our objective to reach the final, and then the league, where we are stagnant with the results. We are in the same position, we haven't moved down or up. The only challenge is that the games are getting less.

"You can see the team, since we came back, is not as we want it. But we have to be honest as well, when we played Highlands [in the Nedbank Cup in March] we played well, but not very good. We are getting there.”
