Proteas enjoy strong start to second test against Bangladesh
The Proteas enjoyed a strong start to the second test against Bangladesh on Tuesday morning, reaching lunch in a solid position on 109/1 in their first innings at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.
The visitors only lost one wicket during the first session, that of captain Aiden Markram (33), but opener Tony de Zorzi (49no) was still going strong, while Tristan Stubbs (23no) has gotten off to a decent start.
They will hope to continue their solid second wicket partnership in the second session and stamp their authority on the match.
At the start of play Markram called the toss correctly and chose to bat first, and along with De Zorzi they got their side off to a good start.
Markram showed some good intent early on with nice boundaries off Hasan Mahmud and Nahid Rana, while De Zorzi also got in on the action, slog sweeping Taijul Islam over deep square leg for six and cricking a boundary off Mahmud.

A three off the bat of Markram in the 11th over saw them bring up the teams 50, before they moved their opening partnership onto 69 runs.
At the start of the 18th over Markram unfortunately gave his wicket away, coming down the track at Islam, but only managed to pop an easy catch off the bottom of the bat straight to Mominul Haque at mid-on.
That brought Stubbs to the crease and along with De Zorzi they settled in to an unbeaten 40-run stand to take them to lunch without further trouble.
The Proteas won the first test in Mirpur last week by seven wickets, and are chasing a two-test clean sweep with this the final one of the series.
