Rise And Shine maintain perfect start

Polokwane City made it two wins from two in the new Betway Premiership season after they beat Magesi 2-0 at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

Puleng Marema opened the scoring on the half-hour mark and Sibusiso Tshabalala doubled Rise And Shine lead on 73 minutes to clinch the Limpopo derby spoils.

Phuti Mohafe's side moved up to second in the standings behind league leaders Golden Arrows on goal difference following their 2-0 victory Marumo Gallants, with Dikwena Tsa Meetse still in 14th place after failing to pick up any points since being promoted.

Polokwane were looking to build on their 2-1 win over AmaZulu on the opening weekend and they hit the front on 30 minutes when Thabang Matuludi played in Marema, who slotted home to open his account for the 2024-25 campaign.

Magesi head coach Clinton Larsen went to his bench first, bringing on Tshepo Matsemela and Kgaogelo Sekgota just after the hour mark, while Tshabalala was introduced for Hlayisi Chauke on the visitors' side moments later.

Mohafe's change would end up making an impact as substitute Tshabalala registered his 10th goal in a Polokwane shirt 17 minutes from time to seal all three points.
