Chiefs look to end City's fairytale run
Kick-off is at 3pm CAT (SA, GMT+2).
The Glamour Boys stretched their winless run to four matches in the league when they lost 2-1 to Lamontville Golden Arrows away on Wednesday and it was also their third consecutive defeat.
The Soweto giants are placed fifth on the DStv Premiership standings - two points behind third-placed Cape Town City with five matches left in the current season.
Arthur Zwane, the Chiefs co-interim coach, says his charges need to show character in their upcoming games and he apologised to their fans following their loss to Arrows.
"We conceded goals we should not have. We need to rectify this, we need a little bit of character to start winning games,” Zwane said.
“We are sorry that we disappointed the fans. We were in control of this game. Arrows know they did not deserve maximum points in this game, and we just gave them points on a silver platter.
"Going forward we will try our level best. We will not give up, we can easily turn things around. That is football, sometimes when things are bad people want to quit. It might be the beginning of good things to come."
Meanwhile, City stretched their unbeaten run to nine matches in the DStv Premiership when they drew 0-0 with newly-crowned champions Mamelodi Sundowns away on Wednesday.
The Citizens are placed third on the league standings - four points behind second-placed Royal AM, but City have a game in hand as the race to finish second intensifies.
With the Western Cape-based club having previously stated that they will not honour this fixture against Chiefs, coach Eric Tinkler stated the team will stay in Gauteng until Saturday as he reflected on their clash with Sundowns.
"Well, we are here until Saturday so we will see."
“We have had a good season so far since the turn of the year. We have found ourselves unbeaten. But you know unbeaten is one thing. Collecting three points is another.
“We would have liked to put pressure, obviously, on Royal AM and closed that gap between ourselves and them. So slight disappointment, but I cannot fault the hard work that the team put in today."
KAIZER CHIEFS: PLAYERS TO WATCH
Khama Billiat: The mercurial attacker rekindled his deadly combination with Leonardo Castro against Arrows and Billait scored a wonderful goal after the duo had combined. Billiat, who is now Chiefs' joint top scorer in the league with seven goals, could be the man to end Amakhosi's winless run this weekend.
Leonardo Castro: The experienced marksman looked sharp against Arrows having overcome his injury woes. Castro will now be looking to open his scoring account for the current campaign when he faces City's stubborn defence with two teams having drawn 0-0 in the first round league clash on 15 February .
CAPE TOWN CITY: PLAYERS TO WATCH
Hugo Marques: Angola's finest goalkeeper is now the outright leader in the DStv Premiership in terms of clean sheets kept in the current season having recorded his 12th clean sheet against Sundowns. The in-form shot-stopper will be determined to keep Chiefs at bay and ensure that his side avoids a defeat.
Mduduzi Mdantsane: The midfielder remains City's leading goalscorer with eight goals across all competitions having returned from his suspension against Sundowns. Mdantsane, who was nurtured in the Chiefs academy, will be hoping to haunt his former side by inspiring the Citizens to a victory.
