Sundowns thump Pirates to clinch Carling Cup
Tournament debutants Mamelodi Sundowns crushed Orlando Pirates 4-0 to lift the Carling Black Label Cup at FNB Stadium on Saturday.
Goals by Sphelele Mkhulise, Grant Kekana and Cassius Mailula powered the Brazilian to a comprehensive win over Pirates, a team that knocked them out of the MTN8.
It was the Brazilians who found their footing early in the match with Bradley Ralani being denied by Pirates goalkeeper Siyabonga Mpontshane.
Pirates suffered a massive blow after 21 minutes when defender Tapelo Xoki was shown red by referee Abongile Tom for a rough challenge on Haashim Domingo who was stretchered off the field to be replaced by Mailula who went on to demolish the Bucs.
With this comprehensive victory, Sundowns finished the tournament with a total of seven goals and two clean sheets.
