Richards Bay coaches happy with first season in Diski Challenge
In their first season playing in the DStv Diski Challenge, Richards Bay FC did well despite not being among the title contenders.
This is according to the club assistant coach Sbusiso Msomi who revealed that it was not easy.
Natal Rich Boys have managed to gather 31 points from 29 matches. They will travel to Gqeberha to face Chippa United for their last league match scheduled for Saturday.
Msomi said the club coaches were satisfied with their first season as they were also able to promote one player midseason to the first team and there could be more.
“We did not have a good start to the season,” Msomi admitted.
“Most of our players were in the professional setup for the first time. So, there were couple of challenges. But after 10 games you could see that there’s progress.”
He continued: “The boys understood each other now and did well, especially in the last few games. As much as this was our first season, we are happy with how things went.
“And to prepare for next season we have started scouting players that will fit in this team, not that the current players are not the ones but to reinforce the squad. For us now, we just have to build from what we have and try to be more competitive next season.”
Richards Bay promoted left-back Nkosikhona Ndaba from Diski to the first team this season.
