Maritzburg deny Richards Bay top spot
Richards Bay missed out on the opportunity to climb to the top of the DStv Premiership standings after drawing 0-0 with Maritzburg United at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi, Durban, on Saturday afternoon.
The result saw the Natal Rich Boyz remain second on the league standings and they will now face Cape Town City on 19 October, while the Team of Choice moved up to the 14th spot on the log ahead of their clash with AmaZulu FC on the same day.
The Natal Rich Boys started the match brightly with Luvuyo Memela and Somila Ntsundwana combining well in the Team of Choice's half.
Memela's looped pass found Ntsundwana whose headed effort flew over the crossbar with only goalkeeper Anye Derick to beat.
Derick was then forced to make a spectacular save to deny Ntsundwana who had connected well with a pass from Memela.
Maritzburg threatened once in the first half when Brandon Theron's low cross was well-saved by keeper Salim Magoola.
The Team of Choice came back an improved side after the restart with Amadou Soukouna looking lively. The former France under-21 international was sent through on goal, but he curled his shot wide of the target without seriously testing Magoola, who was keen to keep his eighth clean sheet of the season.
Magoola nearly made a costly mistake in the latter stages of the game as the Uganda international gave away possession, but he was rescued by his defence and ultimately the match ended in a 0-0 draw as the two KwaZulu-Natal clubs shared the spoils.
