Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro was delighted with Saturday’s derby success but says his side need to show more consistency in the future, particularly as they target a place in next season’s African Champions League.

“I think it was proper derby. I think that the previous ones, at least in the league, were much more … I don't want to say boring … but I think this time we had the opportunity to see much more football, more different momentum in the game from both teams,” said Riveiro after the come-from-behind 3-2 win that moved his side up to second place in the DStv Premiership.

“I think we were also the better team on the field, even though we started a little bit shy and we conceded an easy goal early, but I think after the goal, we managed to play really well. I didn't feel we had many problems to solve, expect obviously the presence of Ashley (du Preez) in the transitions but overall I think that we were better than Chiefs.”

Riveiro said they never panicked even after going behind twice in the game to Du Preez’s double.

“The two goals that we conceded were too easy but in the second half we didn't lose the composure. We knew that we're going to have our options and I'm so happy with the character that the team showed today after a disappointing result (against Cape Town Spurs on Wednesday) but, at the same time, it's something, or it's probably the thing, that we need to correct; we need to find a way to make sure of consistency.

“There's too much difference with our performance last Wednesday and that cannot happen. That's the plan for the future. That's where we have to put the emphasis because the guys showed that on the day they are capable to face every possible challenge. Now the key is to do it week in and week out,” the coach added.
