Cape Town City have confirmed they will part ways with Greek defender Giannis Potouridis, who has battled to make an impact in the Mother City.

The 29-year-old joined City in October 2019, but has made just 19 starts in all competitions in his 19 months at the club.

“City bids farewell to Greek defender Giannis Potouridis after agreeing to mutually part ways in preparation for the new season. We wish him the best of luck in the next phase of his career!” the club said in a brief statement on Friday.

City have all but secured a top eight place this season and are currently under the tutelage of assistant coach Diogo Peral after Jan Olde-Riekerink was sacked earlier this month.

They will have a new permanent coach in place next season, with reports circulating that Eric Tinkler may make a return to the side.

He led the team to third place and the Telkom Knockout in their first season in the DStv Premiership in the 2016/17 campaign, before leaving for SuperSport United.
