TS Galaxy saw off AmaZulu with a 2-0 win in the DStv Premiership at the Mbombela Stadium on Saturday evening.

Although the scoreline may imply the game was easy for the Mpumalanga outfit, a defensive masterclass ensured that the team walked away with all three points.

The first 20 minutes of the match were challenging for the home team as AmaZulu showed determination in their efforts to attack.

Following that, TS Galaxy finally found their ground and were able to slow their opponents down as they settled into the match.

There were no shots on target from either team during that time, but by the 25th minute Mpho Mvelase went for goal and Usuthu goalkeeper Veli Mothwa had to come off his line to get rid of the danger from a very physical attacking effort.

AmaZulu were only able to make attempts on goal from range courtesy of Riaan Hanamub, Augustine Mulenga and Victor Letsoalo.

None of those shots on goal managed to hit the target. As for the Rockets, Mvelase would prove to be a threat for the visitors’ defence time and time again.

FINAL BLOW

It ended up becoming one-way traffic in the first half as AmaZulu failed to hit the target and Galaxy looked the more promising team to open the scoring. Despite this, both teams went into the break goalless.

The beginning of the second half saw an improvement from AmaZulu as they started to keep more possession and looked more convincing going forward.

This would be halted by TS Galaxy at the 54th minute mark as a long through ball from Samir Nurkovic reached Thato Khiba, who finished his shot by putting it inside the right post beating Mothwa.

Minutes later, Usuthu would come close to equalising matters through Letsoalo’s effort, but great work from Rockets goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari ensured that it hit the post.

AmaZulu continued to go forward but their attempts to even the score did not come to fruition.

As 20 minutes of normal time remained on the clock, Junior Dion would come close with a header towards the goal after coming off the bench, but once again Ntwari came to the rescue for Galaxy.

The final blow was delivered by the home team in the 74th minute through a goal by Nurkovic who was a constant threat to AmaZulu.

The KZN outfit continued to try and find the back of the net but could not break their duck for the evening.
