AmaZulu travel to ailing Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday, hoping to pile on the misery for AmaKhosi coach Molefi Ntseki and claim a first victory of the season after three successive 0-0 draws.

It will be their first trip to the FNB Stadium for almost a year with the last two meetings between the clubs in Durban. Oddly, the three before that were all in Soweto.

We look at their past 10 visits to the iconic World Cup final venue to meet Chiefs.

KAIZER CHIEFS 1-1 AMAZULU

October 2, 2022 – MTN8 semifinal, second leg

The first leg of this MTN8 semifinal tie finished 0-0 in Durban, so a score draw would put Usuthu through to the decider, which is exactly what they got.

They opened the scoring early through Gabadinho Mhango, before Keagan Dolly equalised for Chiefs just past the hour-mark.

The tempestuous affair saw three red cards, two for the visitors, including Mhango who was not on the pitch at the time.

There will likely be a few Chiefs players who remember this game and will be out for revenge.

September 3, 2022 – DStv Premiership

The first league meeting last season was played before the MTN8 semifinals and saw Usuthu come away with a goalless draw from the FNB Stadium.

Chiefs spurned the opportunity to go ahead when Dillon Solomons missed a penalty, putting his effort wide of goal. Neither side created much else truth be told.

KAIZER CHIEFS 1-1 AMAZULU

November 24, 2021 – DStv Premiership

AmaZulu had two goalscorers this day though the game finished 1-1. Usuthu midfielder Keagan Buchanan put the ball into his own net on 20 minutes to give the AmaKhosi the lead.

Chiefs were then reduced to 10 men with Cole Alexander picking up a second yellow card, and AmaZulu equalised via Bongi Ntuli.

It was levelled up on the pitch too before the end when Usuthu defender Samkelo Mgwazela also got a second yellow with five minutes remaining.

KAIZER CHIEFS 1-2 AMAZULU

February 17, 2021 – DStv Premiership

The last time AmaZulu came away with a victory at Chiefs was a little over two years ago when they secured a 2-1 victory, with a former AmaKhosi player grabbing their winner.

Augustine Mulenga put the visitors ahead, but Leonardo Castro equalised for Chiefs from the penalty-spot.

Darrel Matsheke was sent off for two yellow cards and that swung the momentum back in favour of Usuthu, who found the winner via Lehlohonolo Majoro with five minutes remaining.

More misery for Gavin Hunt’s Chiefs.

KAIZER CHIEFS 0-1 AMAZULU

March 20, 2020 – DStv Premiership

The last game for these sides before the long season break for Covid-19, Ernst Middendorp’s Chiefs had a healthy lead at the top of the DStv Premiership table, and were expected to win comfortably.

But they battled to break down the visitors and Bongi Ntuli scored just before halftime to give Usuthu something to hold onto.

This was one of the finest moments for Ayanda Dlamini in the AmaZulu dugout.

KAIZER CHIEFS 2-0 AMAZULU

September 22, 2018 – DStv Premiership

This was the last time Chiefs claimed a win against AmaZulu in Soweto and it came almost five years ago under coach Giovanni Solinas.

Their goals came from unusual sources too as defenders Rama Mphahlele and Siyabonga Ngezana netted either side of halftime.

Amazingly, only Itumeleng Khune remains at Naturena from the Chiefs players in the match-day squad for this game.

KAIZER CHIEFS 0-0 AMAZULU

March 17, 2018 – DStv Premiership

A rather dull and lifeless 0-0 draw which rubber-stamps the view that there are not often many goals when these two sides meet in Soweto.

Steve Komphela was the coach for Chiefs for this one, with Cavin Johnson in the other dug-out.

The latter is an attacking coach, but not even he could get team to fire.

Usuthu had veteran Siyabonga Nomvethe on the bench. He had played for Chiefs as far back as 1998!

KAIZER CHIEFS 2-0 AMAZULU

December 18, 2012 – DStv Premiership

AmaZulu’s relegation and Chiefs' tendency to take their fixtures to other venues away from Soweto means there was a six-year gap between encounters at FNB Stadium.

This one ended 2-0 in Chiefs’ favour as Matthew Rusike and Bernard Parker scored for the AmaKhosi. Willard Katsande got a late red card for two bookable offences.

KAIZER CHIEFS 0-0 AMAZULU

May 19, 2012 – DStv Premiership

Other one of those goalless draws that have been common in this fixture though this one had a lively nature about it.

Current Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jnr played in this game, though he could not break the deadlock for his side.

KAIZER CHIEFS 3-1 AMAZULU

January 19, 2011 – DStv Premiership

Motaung Jnr did not get all that many in a Chiefs shirt, but he scored a brace in this game as Chiefs made a fast start and were 2-0 up just past the half-hour mark.

Tangeni Shipahu pulled one back for Usuthu with 12 minutes remaining, but as they pushed for a winner, Jimmy Jambo scored a rare goal for Chiefs to seal the win.
