Royal AM will want to avoid an unwanted new club record when they travel to KwaZulu-Natal rivals Maritzburg United in the DStv Premiership on Wednesday.

The club are winless in their last three games, league draws with Cape Town City and AmaZulu, as well as a 2-1 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns in the Nedbank Cup semifinals this past weekend.

But they have never gone four games without a victory since they were formed into their current state ahead of the 2020/21 GladAfrica Championship campaign.

It will be important to get back to winning ways with a number of clubs breathing down their neck in the race for the second CAF Champions League qualification place.

Victory could potentially move them four points clear in that race, but they are up against an opponent who is desperate for the win too.

Maritzburg have not won since stunning Sundowns in March (D3 L2) and the Harry Gwala Stadium is no longer the fortress it once was.

They have 24 points, six ahead of bottom placed Baroka FC but just one above the relegation play-off position.
