While Cape Town Spurs might’ve hoped that their strong turnaround in the DStv Premiership would pick back up against Chippa United, it was not to be as the Chilli Boys beat them 2-0 at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Spurs have now suffered a second defeat in succession, making their hopes of staying in the top-flight face another blow.

Chippa opened the scoring by the 26th minute through a strike from Sinoxolo Kwayiba after receiving an assist from Bienvenu Eva Nga.

As the match progressed, the Urban Warriors could not find their stride and rarely challenged the home team. The Chilli Boys went into the halftime break a goal ahead.

The second half produced a similar storyline, however, Cape Town Spurs looked more promising on the ball despite Chippa still dominating.

By the 70th minute, Spurs seemed more settled and put crosses into the box but the attackers did not have enough pace to cause any major threats.

Bradley Ralani came off the bench for Spurs and attempted to use his experience by going for goal from range but his shot went well wide.

The away team continued to chase the equaliser but were unsuccessful.

In the closing stages of the match, Kayden Francis put the ball in the back of the net for Chippa in the 86th minute, thus wrapping up the fixture as a win for the Gqeberha outfit.
