Leeds boosted their bid for automatic promotion to the Premier League with a 1-0 victory against Norwich on Wednesday.

Patrick Bamford scored the winner at Elland Road with a fine first-half header.

Daniel Farke's fourth-placed side climbed within two points of second-placed Ipswich, who have a game in hand over their Championship promotion rivals.

Leeds' fifth successive victory in all competitions was especially sweet for Farke as it came at the expense of the German's former club, who sacked him in 2021.

Gabriel Sara's first-half miss, which would have drawn Norwich level, proved costly for David Wagner's men.

Norwich's first defeat in six games stopped them moving into the play-off places.

In a fixture brought forward because both sides are in FA Cup fourth-round action this weekend, Bamford netted in the 16th minute with his fourth goal in five games.

Georginio Rutter and Daniel James combined on the edge of the area and the latter provided a pin-point assist to the far post, where Bamford headed back past Norwich keeper Angus Gunn into the far corner.
