English second-tier football club Hull have appointed Tim Walter as their new head coach on a three-year deal after controversially dismissing Liam Rosenior.

The Tigers stunned many observers by sacking Championship manager of the season nominee Rosenior after they just missed out on the playoffs.

Walter was immediately linked with the vacancy and Hull have confirmed the 48-year-old former Hamburg manager's appointment, subject to the German coach obtaining a visa.

"Tim was always our first choice," Hull's Turkish owner Acun Ilicali said on Friday.

"We had many strong applicants and wanted to be thorough in our recruitment process, but it quickly became clear that Tim was the outstanding candidate."

Ilicali added: "Our discussions were detailed and productive in planning for this season and I am encouraged about how we can work together to the benefit of our club.

"I believe in Tim's philosophy and, in doing so, I am hopeful that over the forthcoming season he can continue our positive progress and upward trajectory."
