Mekelakeya take back top spot, Adama win
The Defence Force are back on top in the Ethiopia Premier League after Mekelakeya beat Sidama Coffee 2-1 on Saturday.
Adama City beat Bahir Dar City 2-1 in the second game on Saturday as fans enjoyed two cracking games at the Adama Science and Technology University Stadium.
Mekelakeya have been trailing Ethiopia Nigd Bank for a few weeks but when the Bankers lost to St George in midweek it left the door open for the Defence Force to regain the lead.
Sidama Coffee held Mekelakeya goalless for most of the first half until they conceded a penalty on the dot of halftime.
Minyilu Wondimu converted the penalty to give Mekelakeya a 1-0 lead going into the break.
Sidama Coffee equalised in the 60th minute through Bulcha Shura and it became a fiery contest.
However, Mekelakeya produced a great push, and on 73 minutes Sidama Coffee defender Abebayehu Yohannes inadvertently scored an own goal to earn the Defence Force the winner.
The victory takes Mekelakeya top of the log with 30 points, one more than Ethiopia Nigd Bank on 29 points.
Adama City, meanwhile, scored in the 22nd minute through Bona Ali but Bahir Dar City equalised through Habtamu Tadesse just three minutes later.
The winning goal for Adama arrived in the second half courtesy youth prodigy Yosef Tarekegn in the 74th minute.
