Bahir Dar and St George draw, Hambericho foil Fasil
St George missed the chance to go top of the Ethiopia Premier League on Friday when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Bahir Dar, while Hambericho Durame earned a rare point with a surprise 2-2 draw with Fasil Kenema.
St George needed a late goal to salvage a 1-1 draw with Bahir Dar City at the Dire Dawa international Stadium.
Bahir Dar City drew first blood when former St George star Cherinet Gugsa broke the deadlock at the half hour mark.
The Horsemen laboured through the next quarter hour and the teams went into the halftime break with no further goals added to the scorline.
The second half was explosive as both sides missed many chances
Then, cometh the hour, cometh the man. Just when it seemed like Bahir Dar would run away with a 1-0 win St George's in-form striker, Amanuel Erbo struck on 90+4 minutes to earn a share of the points for his team.
St George remain third with 39 points, Mekelakeya are in second place with 40 points and Ethiopia Nigd Bank top the log with 43 points.
Earlier, it was an 11th-minute own goal by Fasil's goalkeeper, Samake Mickel, who gave Hambericho and unlikely 1-0 lead.
Nathanael Gebregiorgis equalised for Fasil in the 28th minute.
Hambericho took the initiative in the second half and looked to have scored the winning goal when Abdulelam Yesuf produced an audacious goal.
However, Fasil rescued a point at the death with a goal on 90+2 minutes through Shemsedin Muhammed as the sides were forced to settle for a draw.
