No title insurance for St George, CBE peel away
Ethiopia Nigd Bank, also known as CBE - Commercial Bank of Ethiopia, have the advantage as Ethiopian Insurance poured more misery on St George in the Ethiopia Premier League on Friday.
St George were playing under their new interim coach for the first time but it would be a back to back loss following their 1-2 loss to Hawassa last weekend.
That loss lead to the suspension of St George coach Zerihun Shengeta.
Biruk Mulugeta scored the only goal of the game for Ethiopian Insurance in the 58th minute, but it was enough to earn them all three points.
The win gives Ethiopian Insurance a massive 12-point cushion in the battle against relegation after Wolkite lost 1-2 to leaders, CBE.
CBE beat Wolkite 2-1 to extend their points haul to 50 points, six points above second-placed Mekelakeya with St George further behind by 11 points.
Suleiman Hamid had given the Bankers a 25th-minute first-half lead.
Fuad Fereja doubled their advantage in the second half when he scored just three minutes after the break to give CBE a 2-0 lead.
Wolkite pulled one back on 89 minutes through Samson Tilahun but it was too little, too late as CBE won 2-1.
