Ethiopia Coffee too hot for Wolaitta, Hawassa hold Sidama
Sidama Coffee held Hawassa City to a 1-1 draw as Ethiopia Coffee proved too hot for Wolaitta Dicha with a 2-1 win in the Ethiopia Premier League on Saturday.
The win moves Ethiopia Coffee up to fifth place on the log, albeit 12 points behind leaders CBE, but just one-point behind bitter rivals St George in fourth place with 39 points.
Wolaitta Dicha drew first blood in the 38th minute as they led 1-0 at halftime.
Ethiopia Coffee bounced back in the second half with Mesfin Tafesse on song with the equaliser in the 50th minute.
They scored the winning goal with five minutes to go through long time stalwart Mohammednur Nasir in the 85th minute.
Wolaitta Dicha are in 12th place, level on on points (28) with Ethiopian Insurance with both hoping another win keeps them safe from relegation.
In the day's other game Tafesse Solomon gave Hawassa City a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute as they made their early pressure count.
They couldn't add to their tally as Solomon missed another chance before the break
Sidama Coffee came out smoking in the second half.
However, they were unable to find an early equaliser as Hawassa soon found their rhythm and grew into the game.
Sidama Coffee eventually equalised against the run of play with Desta Demu on the end of counter-attack to score in the 74th minute
The game ended in a 1-1 stalemate, a result that leaves both sides still in the same positions as before with Sidama Coffee in 11th position and Hawassa City in ninth spot.
