This weekend, October 1, marks 50 days to the greatest show on earth - the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

To celebrate this milestone, SuperSport has dedicated shows and back-to-back World Cup programming designed to whet the appetite and get viewers in the mood for the biggest sporting event of 2022.

“Super Saturday”, the popular weekend show, will focus on the countdown and also put the spotlight on the Manchester derby being played on Sunday, plus the MTN 8 semifinals (Pirates vs Sundowns and Chiefs vs AmaZulu).

The SuperPicks show will continue the theme. In South Africa, memorable World Cup moments will feature, plus vox pops on who are the Cup favourites.

Beyond SA, continental SuperPicks viewers will be treated to a focus on African teams at the World Cup with fans invited to select their all-time Ghana XI.

On the SS Football channel, meanwhile, there will be an assortment of Cup-themed programming, including updates on Africa’s five participating teams, two official World Cup films (1930 and 2018), the “When the World Watched” documentary on Brazil’s 1970 team and another on the Brazil side of 2002.

Online, the SuperSport website (supersport.com) will acknowledge the 50-day mark with a host of content (articles and video) that encompasses team and player profiles and bespoke content on Africa’s teams going to Qatar.

The site will also liberally dip into FIFA’s portal and share compelling content such as Hall of Champions, best World Cup goals, iconic moments, and funnies, all on a daily basis.
