DAY 3: Subrayen and Viljoen lead Dolphins' fightback
Prenelan Subrayen and Hanu Viljoen saved the day for the Hollywoodbets Dolphins with a brilliant fightback on day three of their CSA 4-Day Series match against Goldrush Boland at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead on Saturday.
The Dolphins were on 300-8 at stumps.
The Dolphins trail Boland by 81 runs with two wickets in hand.
They are replying to Boland's first-innings score of 381-7d.
The hosts had Hanu Viljoen (80*) and Daryn Dupavillon (15*) at the crease at the close of play.
Subrayen scored an outstanding 82 off 88 balls.
This is his sixth first-class half-century. He faced 50 deliveries to register the milestone. His partner was unbeaten on 46.
The 31-year-old rescued the Dolphins' innings from a downward spiral when he joined Viljoen in the middle in the 30th over.
The Dolphins were floundering on 110-6 at the time. They were staring at the possibility of a follow-on.
Subrayen shared a potentially match-saving 147-run seventh-wicket partnership.
Viljoen was the foil to Subrayen's attacking approach. He faced 124 deliveries to register his first half-century for the Dolphins in red-ball cricket.
While it is his fourth first-class half-century, it is his first in Division One cricket. The 23-year-old moved to the Dolphins from Northern Cape Heat earlier in the year.
Subrayen and Viljoen's half-centuries came after Tshepang Dithole's half-ton in the morning session.
Dithole's 68-ball 51 helped the home side gain a foothold in the match, despite losing a flurry of wickets early on.
The wicketkeeper stroked a fluent half-century. He faced 59 deliveries on his way to a 13th first-class half-ton.
Shaun von Berg and Glenton Stuurman were the pick of the bowlers for Boland.
They bagged three wickets each. Von Berg had the better numbers with three wickets for 47 runs in 24 overs.
Stuurman had a higher economy. He was conceding at 3.67 for his three wickets for 55 runs in 15 overs.
Keith Dudgeon and Michael Copeland were the other wicket-takers with a wicket each.
