Boe also won the sprint, the men's relay and the mixed relay.

The 28-year-old also took a bronze medal in the men's 20km individual race.

In Friday's event in Zhangjiakou, he beat Martin Ponsiluoma of Sweden into silver, while another Norwegian, Vetle Christiansen, took bronze.

Boe's fourth gold was Norway's 15th of the Beijing Games and they top the medals table.

"It means a lot. You cannot predict how the Olympic Games will be," Boe said.

"My last years as a biathlete have been fantastic but it is the Games that matter and I'm really happy that I did my best biathlon in the Games, not only before and after.

"Very relieved."
