Harris, 27, started the match with an impressive set, taking the American to the cleaners and won the match six games to four. He took the first set with 10 aces with no break points faced. But the two gave a stronger performance in the second set that saw the game being forced into a tie breaker which the 21-year old won.

The South African pulled one back in the third set which was also forced into the break, this seemed to have him rest on his laurels which allowed the former US Open semifinalist back into the game. Shelton Powered through to take the last set in yet another tie break.

Shelton showed great feel around the net under the pressure in the tie-break to advance to the third round at The Championships for the first time in his career.
