In the latest round of Motsepe Foundation Championship fixtures, Cape Town Spurs and Polokwane City capitalised on points dropped by Casric Stars at the top of the table, as the battle for the No 1 spot takes an interesting turn.

Much of this week’s focus has been placed on the likes of Polokwane City, Spurs and Casric Stars, with there being little room for error atop of the Motsepe Foundation Championship log.

To begin with, Rise and Shine travelled to the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium where they faced a tricky Magesi outfit. However, Polokwane City showcased their class in recording a 2-0 victory on the road.

The victory saw Rise and Shine move into top spot with a narrow goal difference advantage over Cape Town Spurs, who were made to work for their three points at the Global Stadium.

Coach Shaun Bartlett and his troops faced a spirited Baroka FC in Polokwane on Wednesday afternoon, claiming a 3-2 win in the process.

The home team were afforded a golden opportunity to level matters via the penalty spot in the 85th minute but failed to convert the crucial goalscoring opportunity.

The Urban Warriors remain on course in their bid for automatic promotion, while Casric Stars surrendered two points against Venda Football Academy.

Taking to the pitch at the Thohoyandou Stadium, Venda Football Academy and Casric Stars shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.

Casric Stars trail Polokwane City and Cape Town Spurs by the solitary point in third spot on the competitive table.

Platinum City Rovers 1-1 JDR Stars
