SA water polo team suffer defeat to Netherlands
The South African women’s Water Polo team was overcome by the more experienced Netherlands side when they fell 33-0 in their opening match of the 18th Fina World Championships in Gwangju, South Korea today.
Scorers for the Netherlands were Maud Megens (six), Dagmar Genee (four), Sabrina van der Sloot (three), Iris Wolves (three), Nomi Stomphorst (two), Bente Rogge (three), Maartje Keuning (two), Simone van de Kraats (seven) and Rozanne Voorvelt (three).
Earlier on in the day, Michelle Weber and Robyn Kinghorn raced in the Open Water 10km event and finished 31st and 46th in 1:56:25.8 and 2:03:05.1, respectively.
The women’s Water Polo team will go up against New Zealand in their second group match on Tuesday, 16th July 2019, while Monday’s programme will see the men’s Water Polo team take on Spain.
