Lesedi Kapinga has terminated his contract at Orlando Pirates by mutual agreement and left the club just days before the close of the transfer window.

It ends a disappointing spell for the attacking midfielder who started only two games during his one season stay at Pirates.

He had joined the club on a free transfer after being released by Mamelodi Sundowns at the end of the 2022/23 season.

The 29-year-old Kapinga spent three seasons at Sundowns but started only 9 games there, which means he has started only 11 matches over the last four seasons.

He made a strong impression after his debut with Black Leopards in 2018 and in his second season with Thohoyandou-based cub scored six goals in 24 starts.

It prompted Sundowns to sign him, but he never made a breakthrough with the Brazilians, not at the Buccaneers.

Kapinga is now a free agent, which means he can join any club, even after the transfer window closes on Friday.

Pirates have had a high profile clean out since finishing second in the league last season. Kermit Erasmus, Fortune Makaringe (Cape Town City), Thabang Monare (Sekhukhune United), Souaibou Marou (Al Shabab, Saudi Arabia), Siyabonga Mpontshane, Richard Ofori, Vincent Pule (SuperSport United) and Bongani Sam (Kaizer Chiefs) have all left the club.
