Ten things we learned this week in LaLiga EA Sports
What has been going on in LaLiga this past week? Here are 10 of the top stories, from Kylian Mbappé’s first Real Madrid hat-trick to Real Betis’ acquisition of Antony.
This past week was one of many goals for a few Spanish teams, domestically and in Europe. Those scorelines are detailed below, along with the other major headlines from the past seven days.
MBAPPÉ SCORES HIS FIRST REAL MADRID HAT-TRICK
Real Madrid remain top of the table, thanks to a 3-0 victory away at Real Valladolid in which Kylian Mbappé scored all three of the goals. It is the Frenchman’s first hat-trick for the club, and means he now has 15 goals in LaLiga EA Sports this season, so is closing in on Robert Lewandowski’s 17 in the Pichichi race.
BARÇA FLEX THEIR GOALSCORING MUSCLE
FC Barcelona had a statement win in Matchday 21, as they thrashed Valencia CF 7-1 at home. Frenkie de Jong opened the scoring in the third minute and Los Blaugrana didn’t look back, going on to score seven times to take their total goals scored tally for the LaLiga EA Sports season to 59.
ATLETI DROP MORE POINTS IN THE TITLE RACE
It’s Atlético de Madrid who remain second, but they’re now four points behind Real Madrid after dropping two points at home in Matchday 21. Los Colchoneros came from behind to draw 1-1 with Villarreal CF, thanks to a Samuel Lino goal, but it means they’ve now gone two matchdays in a row without a win.
GETAFE CF STUN REAL SOCIEDAD AT THE REALE ARENA
Getafe CF are in good form, as they’ve taken seven points from their first three league games of 2025. Their latest match was a visit to Real Sociedad, and Los Azulones stunned the home crowd by producing a 3-0 victory, with Carles Pérez scoring twice and Christantus Uche netting the other.
RANDY NTEKA IS THE HERO IN VALLECAS
Rayo Vallecano earned a 2-1 victory over Girona FC to keep up their own good form, and to move into seventh place. They were trailing against the Catalan side as the fulltime whistle approached, but two goals in three minutes from Randy Nteka earned the capital city side the win.
BAKAMBU’S LATE GOAL GETS REAL BETIS BACK TO WINNING WAYS
Real Betis took all three points from their trip to take on RCD Mallorca, winning 1-0 via a 96th-minute Cédric Bakambu header. It was the perfect response from Los Verdiblancos, after losing two LaLiga EA Sports games in a row.
ANTONY WILL PLAY FOR REAL BETIS THE REST OF THIS SEASON
Real Betis also completed an eye-catching transfer this past week, bringing in Brazil international Antony on loan from Manchester United until the end of this season. He’ll add flair to Los Verdiblancos’ attack, as they aim to climb up the LaLiga EA Sports table and progress in the Uefa Conference League.
UD LAS PALMAS STRENGTHEN THEIR DEFENCE WITH ANDY PELMARD
UD Las Palmas completed a signing this week, bringing in 24-year-old right-back Andy Pelmard on loan from Clermont Foot. This is a boost to their defence, as Pelmard can play in multiple positions in the back line.
RONALD ARAÚJO COMMITS HIS FUTURE TO FC BARCELONA
FC Barcelona and Ronald Araújo agreed an extension to the centre-back’s contract this past week, with the Uruguayan putting pen to paper on a new deal. His contract had been set to expire in 2026, but the new deal will now run until 2031.
A WEEK OF LATE GOALS AND IMPRESSIVE RESULTS IN THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
There were several dramatic games involving Spanish clubs in European football this past week, especially a 5-4 comeback win for FC Barcelona away at Benfica and a 2-1 comeback for Atlético de Madrid against Bayer Leverkusen, as Julián Álvarez led a 10-man Atletico side to victory.
