Botswana-Namibia 2027 AFCON bid takes shape
Botswana and Namibia will submit a joint bid to host the Africa Cup of Nations in 2027. Dubbed BONA, the two Southern African nations are hoping to play host to the tournament for the first time in the region since 2013, when it was held in South Africa.
BONA’s bid held an official Cosafa dinner in Namibia for the Cosafa AGM delegates, where both ministers of sport in Namibia and Botswana affirmed their respective government support for BONA 2027.
The ministry of youth, gender, sport, and culture tweeted:
"This is not a bid for Botswana or for Namibia but for the rest of the Cosafa region. We are calling on your support when the time comes for the decions on this matter".
Hon Rakgare revealed that the two governments will announce their joint bid before the end of May 2022.
The Africa Cup of Nations otherwise known as AFCON is a biannual football spectacle held for Senior National teams.
