Cricket stars on display during 3rd Betway SA20 Auction on SuperSport

SuperSport viewers will witness the 3rd official Betway SA20 Auction, as the stars go under the hammer of famous auctioneer Richard “The Hammerman” Madley, the master of proceedings.

Taking place in Cape Town on Tuesday, 01 October 2024, fans can expect the stylish flair for which Madley is renowned to once again amp up fanfare for not only the auction but for the start of South Africa’s most anticipated T20 competition, the Betway SA20, which begins 9 January 2025.

“I’m thrilled to be back at the helm of the Betway SA20 season 3 player auction,” Madley said.

Having endeared himself to cricket-loving fans during his legendary decade-long stint during the Indian Premier League (IPL) auctions, he will be no stranger to SuperSport viewers when he leads proceedings for the 13th time. His first, however, is still dear to him.

“I have fond memories of the marathon 10-hour auction we had in the first season, so it’s great to be back in charge of proceedings and to wield my gavel.”

The third iteration of the star-studded tournament will see even more elite cricketers join the already decorated rosters inside the Sunrisers Eastern Cape, MI Cape Town, Pretoria Capitals, Paarl Royals, Durban Super Giants and Joburg Super Kings.

World-class talent such as Ben Stokes, Kane Williamson, Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, Marcus Stoinis and Devon Conway are all rearing for their debut summer of incredible.

As was the case in years gone by, there will be palpable tension and fierce competitiveness among rival franchises to secure the services of South Africa’s and the world’s best T20 players.

With the likes of Romashan Pillay (Allrounder) and Siya Mdlankomo (Fast bowler) in the hat, there is no doubt that the outcome of this year’s auction will leave many buzzing for the tournament, which is available exclusively on Your World of Champions, SuperSport.

“There are some fantastic local and international players who have put their names into the auction. I’m expecting some competitive bidding as the teams finalise their squads.” Madley predicted.

With the final list of players available for the auction having been released on Wednesday, 25 September, delegates from each franchise have had almost a week to plot their strategies.

“The first two Betway SA20 auctions that were broadcast on SuperSport were nothing short of exhilarating, with fans glued to their screens. We are looking forward to showing fans another nail-biting affair,” said SuperSport CEO Rendani Ramovha.

The 3rd Betway SA20 Auction will be broadcast live on Your World of Champions, SuperSport, on SuperSport Cricket (DStv Channel 212) at 16:15 (SA Time).
