Prenelan Subrayen and Keshav Maharaj of Durban’s Super Giants grabbed two wickets each to help restrict the Joburg Super Kings to a par-looking total of 169 for seven in their SA20 match at Kingsmead in Durban on Tuesday.

The Super Kings, having won the toss and chosen to bat, never quite put together the big partnership that would have threatened the 200 mark with the best coming from Devon Conway and Leus du Plooy who combined to produce 57 off 40 balls for the second wicket after Faf du Plessis was out in the first over from Prenelan Subrayen, getting a leading edge to point as he attempted to play the ball to leg.

Du Plooy was the more dynamic of the two, striking two fours and two sixes in his 32-ball 38 before he was bowled by Subrayen attempting a reverse sweep.

Conway had gone just before him, cutting Maharaj to Chris Woakes at short third man.

The spin twins performed well as a combo with Subrayen claiming 2-24 and Maharaj 2-28 on a pitch that took a little turn and was fairly slow, making it difficult for the batters to hit through the ball.

The third spinner for the Super Giants, Noor Ahmad, also bowled well and was a little unlucky not to get a wicket, conceding just 29 runs off his four overs.

Medium-pacer Chris Woakes varied his pace well, claiming 2-28 off his quota of overs, claiming the key wickets of Jonny Bairstow, nonchalantly caught behind by Quinton de Kock, and Ferreira, caught in the deep.

All the top and middle-order got starts for the visitors but wickets fell regularly before any real momentum could be built.

However Ferreira (26) helped his team to flourish at the death while Gerald Coetzee finished the innings with aplomb, pulling Naveen ul-Haq for consecutive sixes.
