Five LaLiga players to watch during the March international break

There are some huge fixtures coming up in the first international break of 2021, especially as World Cup qualifying begins in Europe. Here are some of the LaLiga stars worth watching.

Yunus Musah – USA

Valencia CF winger Yunus Musah was eligible to represent the USA, England, Italy or Ghana at international level and the 18-year-old has announced this past week that he will play for the USA. He has already featured in two friendlies for the USMNT, playing against Wales and Panama in November, and now he can take part in two more for Gregg Berhalter’s side as they meet Jamaica and Northern Ireland this March.

Miralem Pjanic – Bosnia and Herzegovina

Miralem Pjanic can make history this international break as Bosnia and Herzegovina play World Cup qualifiers against Finland and France, as well as a friendly against Costa Rica. Currently on 98 caps for his country, the FC Barcelona midfielder can reach 100 caps and he’d become just the second player to ever achieve this milestone, after Edin Džeko. The vice-captain could also break into the top five for goalscorers in the history of his national team as he is currently sixth on 15, just two behind fifth-placed Sergej Barbarez.

Youssef En-Nesyri and Munir El Haddadi – Morocco

Morocco can approach their March fixtures with excitement, as their forward Youssef En-Nesyri is in excellent form. The Sevilla FC striker has already surpassed the 20-goal mark for the 2020/21 campaign at club level and he has scored two goals for his country already this season as well. Now, the Atlas Lions face Mauritania and Burundi in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying and they’ll look to their in-form striker to lead them to the tournament. His Sevilla FC mate in the attacking line, Munir El Haddadi was also called with Morocco for the first time. And that’s quite special, as he was one of the players who pushed Fifa to change the rules after having played just a single game for Spain, but willing to play for Morocco (as he has both nationalities). He will finally make his dream true during this international break.

Pedri – Spain

So impressive has Pedri been for FC Barcelona this season that he has earned a call-up to Spain’s senior side at the age of just 18. The Canary Islander has played 41 matches for the Blaugrana this campaign and has become one of the first names on Ronald Koeman’s team sheet each week. He is looking to earn a place in Luis Enrique’s squad for this summer’s European Championship and will look to prove what he can do during Spain’s World Cup qualifiers against Greece, Georgia and Kosovo.

Sergio Ramos – Spain

Another Spanish player worth watching this international break is the captain of La Roja, Sergio Ramos. He is closing in on Egyptian Ahmed Hassan’s record for official international appearances of 184. Currently, Ramos is on 178 and can move to within just three of the legendary Egyptian if he features in all three of Spain’s qualifiers this month. Ramos will also look to add to his Spain goals tally. With 23 strikes for La Roja, he is already the defender with the most goals at international level in history.
