Getafe striker Mayoral set to miss rest of season injured

Getafe striker Borja Mayoral is set to miss the rest of the season after sustaining a knee injury.

The former Real Madrid forward, La Liga's second top goalscorer on 15 strikes, was taken off hurt in the 3-3 draw with Las Palmas on Saturday and will have an operation on Thursday.

"I have to tell you that this injury is a harsh blow for me, I cannot hide it," said Mayoral on social media.

Spanish reports indicate he will miss up to three months, meaning it is unlikely for him to play again this season.

Mayoral, who trails only Real Madrid's Jude Bellingham in the scoring charts, has helped Getafe, 11th, consolidate a mid-table position.
