Poland v Slovakia: What the stats say

Only one of the previous eight matches between Poland and Slovakia has ended in a draw (3 wins for Poland, 4 for Slovakia). Their last meeting ended in a 2-0 win for Slovakia back in November 2013, courtesy of goals from Juraj Kucka and Robert Mak, the latter’s first for the national team.
Poland are taking part in their fourth UEFA European Championships, also their fourth in a row. 2016 is the only time they have reached the knockout stages (eliminated on penalties in the quarter-finals by Portugal).
Slovakia will be making their third appearance at a major tournament (World Cup + European Championships, Slovakia featured at World Cup 2010 and Euro 2016). They were eliminated in the round of 16 in both of those tournaments.

Poland have never scored more than one goal in their 11 games at the European Championships. Similarly, none of their 11 games in the competition have ever produced more than two goals.
Poland have only lost one of their last eight games at the European Championships (W2 D5, penalty shoot-outs excluded), a 0-1 defeat against Czech Republic in the Euro 2012 group stages.
Slovakia have won just one of their four previous matches at the European Championships, beating Russia 2-1 in their second match back in 2016.
Polish striker Robert Lewandowski has scored only one goal in his last 10 games in major competitions (World Cup + European Championships). It was against Portugal in the Euro 2016 quarter-finals.
In their previous appearance at the European Championships in 2016, no player was involved in more goals (2 – 1 goal, 1 assist), had more shots (10), or made more successful passes (181) for Slovakia than Marek Hamšík. The midfielder is one of only three Slovakia players to have featured in all eight of their team’s games at major tournaments (World Cup + European Championships), alongside Martin Škrtel and Ján Durica.
