AmaZulu emerged victorious with a 1-0 scoreline in their Betway Premiership clash against struggling Magesi at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The result saw Usuthu climb higher up the table up to eighth place in the league standings, however circumstances could change as the teams above them still have games in hand.

The match began with the visitors dominating possession, however Magesi seemed to have more hunger as the half saw them have more attempts on goal.

Towards the end of the first half, Magesi’s Wonderboy Makhubu came close to opening the scoring however his effort was skied above the crossbar. As the whistle came, both teams had work to do to be more clinical in front.

Bongani Zungu’s strike from outside the box opened the scoring in the 53rd minute of play, demonstrating his vast experience in top-flight football.

The effort found the back of the net, although it did look as if opposition goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze could have done better to make the save.

The goal from AmaZulu seemingly demoralised Dikwena tsa Meetse, and they struggled to find the rhythm they had in the first stanza in the second half.

The match ended 1-0, with Usuthu collecting all three points as they continued their resurgence in the Betway Premiership.
