The men might be dominating the scene with World Cups, but that doesn't mean the women aren't featuring prominently on SuperSport screens this month.

Here are the highlights to look forward to in October 2023:

----- TENNIS - the final countdown -----

It is all building up as we wind the season down. The players are in the East at the moment for the 1000 Series event in Beijing, followed by the Zhengzhou Open, which has attracted a strong field featuring four Slam finalists from 2023 - Marketa Vondrousova, Elena Rybakina, Ons Jabeur and Karolina Muchova.

They remain in China for the WTA Elite Trophy - for players ranked 9-19 and one wild card - before heading off the Cancun, Mexico, for the season-ending WTA Finals.

----- NETBALL - SA Champs, 2-7 October -----

The excitement of the Netball World Cup followed by Varsity Netball is over, but there is still plenty for netball fans to enjoy as the annual Spar National Championships begin in Rustenburg on October 2.

The event is traditionally played in August, to coincide with Women’s Month and National Women’s Day, but had to be postponed this year because of the Netball World Cup in Cape Town in August.

Up to 1 800 players will descend on Hoërskool Rustenburg for a feast of netball, with the under-21 championships being played alongside the senior tournament.

Nine districts will compete for the senior A title, which is currently held by Johannesburg.

FOOTBALL - COSAFA Women's Championship, 4-15 October

Gauteng welcomes the women of southern Africa to SA as the COSAFA Championship takes place from 4-15 October, with Madagascar v Eswatini and South Africa v Malawi on the opening day.

----- CRICKET - SA v New Zealand, T20s, 6-15 October -----

After clinching the ODI series 2-1, the Proteas women will be looking to thrill the home crowds once again as they take on New Zealand in five T20 matches.

The first three clashes are in East London, followed by a trip up to Gauteng for two more.

----- GOLF - LPGA -----

THE ASCENDANT LPGA – 5-8 October

Defending champion Charley Hull, Texas residents and past champions Angela Stanford (2020), Cheyenne Knight (2019) and Stacy Lewis (2014) and major champions Celine Boutier, Lydia Ko and Lexi Thompson headline an elite field.

The field also will feature 13 players who competed in the recently concluded Solheim Cup in Spain.

BMW LADIES CHAMPIONSHIP – 19-22 October

Seowon Hills at Seowon Valley Country Club in Gyeonggi-do, Republic of Korea, will host the 2023 BMW Ladies Championship.

The tournament is set for October 19-22 and will feature a field of 78 players competing for a $2.2 million purse in a 72-hole, no-cut event.

Lydia Ko will be looking to make it two out of two after she was crowned champion last year in an exciting fashion after a final-round 65, capturing the 18th title of her LPGA Tour career.

----- FOOTBALL - Women's Super League -----

England's top football teams have begun their new season, and there are plenty of top clashes to keep the vibes from the World Cup going strong.

Confirmed matches already for October include Man City v Chelsea and Liverpool v Villa on Sunday, October 8, followed by Arsenal v Villa and Liverpool v Everton on the 15th.
