The Springbok Sevens team faces a tough task against a resurgent Fiji in the quarterfinals of the Perth Sevens at lunchtime on Saturday, after going down to Argentina in their final pool match earlier in the day.

The Blitzboks lost 19-17 to the defending Perth Sevens champions after going down 19-0 in the first half, but their comeback was just too little, too late and for their troubles, they now have to face Fiji in a quarterfinal at 12.19pm (CAT, GMT+2).

It was a stellar fightback, but not quite enough, especially after Shelton van Wyk got them within two with seconds to go. But the kickoff was lost, and Argentina booted the ball out to claim the victory, much to their relief.

After Matteo Graziano and Marcos Monetta got Los Pumas off to a flying start, it was Mattias Osadcsuk who took them to 19-0 out by the break.

But second half tries by Quewin Nortje, Selvyn Davids and Van Wyk brought the Blitzboks close, but not close enough.

In other action, the giant killers Uruguay qualified for the quarterfinals and will face Spain in the playoffs, while New Zealand were ousted thanks to their loss to the South Americans.

The other quarterfinals will see Argentina face Great Britain, and France face hosts Australia.
