MultiChoice gifts multi-purpose sports field to Motswela Secondary School
Learners at Motswela Secondary School, situated at Caswell, Gelukwaarts in Kroonstad, will now enjoy a variety of sports on their brand-new Let’s Play multipurpose sports field. The field, donated by MultiChoice, was officially accepted by the school and the MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture in the Free State, Ms. Limpho Mahase and the MEC for Education, Mr. P. Makgoe at a ceremony held earlier today.
The multi-purpose field can be used for five different sporting codes: hockey, five-a-side soccer, tennis, volleyball, and netball. In addition to the fields, the school has also received Let’s Play kit bags filled with sports equipment and playing kits.
“The Let’s Play fields initiative is about developing a love for sport and introducing previously disadvantaged schools to sporting codes that they would not have otherwise been able to participate in,” said Collen Dlamini, Group Executive for Corporate Affairs at MultiChoice.
“We create a space for children and teachers to foster a love of being active and equip teachers to inspire children to be more active and to enjoy playing a sport. Who knows, some of these kids might be our future stars on SuperSport,” continued Dlamini.
Growing a healthier generation is a vital component of the country’s education system, since being more active helps kids to be healthier, which in turn helps them to concentrate better leading to better academic performance.
The field is part of ten multi-purpose playing fields constructed by Let’s Play in the last 24 months across the country including in Lusikisiki in the Eastern Cape, Kimberley in the Northern Cape and Shatale Village in Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga.
Over the past few years, Let’s Play has invested over R20 million to create a healthier youth generation with over 315 schoolteachers being trained in new physical education methodologies.
