Former Cape Town City's Angolan goalkeeper Hugo Marques has explained why he thinks his compatriot Deivi Miguel Vieira (Gilberto) is a great signing for Orlando Pirates.

Pirates confirmed in a statement the signing of the right-winger from Angola's Girabola champions Petro de Luanda on a three-year deal after he passed a medical.

“Delvi, who is better known as Gilberto, joins the Buccaneers after two seasons with Angolan Girabola champions Petro du Luanda. The enterprising forward comes off an impressive season where he starred at the African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast earlier in the year, helping guide Angola to the quarterfinals of the competition," reads Pirates' statement.

Reacting to his countryman's move to Pirates, Marques told supersport.com that the 23-year-old will bring an extra dimension to the Soweto giants' attack.

The award-winning PSL keeper said Gilberto is versatile capable of playing as a false striker.

"He is very good one on one, and very fast. He is going to be a good transfer for Orlando," Marques said.

The Petro de Luanda keeper hoped that Gilberto would emulate his feat in the PSL.

"I hope he can make a lot of history," he said.

Marques played 34 games for the Citizens and was voted the best goalkeeper for the DStv Premiership in the 2021-2022 season.
