Ultimate goal is to win the league - Notoane

The DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) might still be in the early stages, but Mamelodi Sundowns coach David Notoane is not hiding that winning the league title is their ultimate goal.

After 11 matches Sundowns showed positive signs gathering 25 points. They are breathing on the necks of defending champions Stellenbosch FC at the summit with 26 points.

Talking after claiming Tshwane Derby bragging rights by beating SuperSport United 2-1 over the weekend, Notoane said he is preparing his youngsters to not rely too much on senior players such as Ntando Nkosi, Kutlwano Letlhaku and Malibongwe Khoza.

"This (squad) is still a young group, Of course, you know, we'll take it game by game. The most important thing is playing good football to win matches. 
And then when you win matches, consistent and improving in your performance, then the ultimate goal should be winning the league," explained Notoane.

"You first have to outdo everyone, your competitors, but without putting too much pressure on them in terms of the demand for winning, of course, we would like to be a competitive stay there in the top three and then if it's there (the league title) for the taking we grab it."

Sundowns have only lifted the DDC title once in 2016-17 season. Last season under coach Themba Badela, they fought until the final match of the season where they needed Stellenbosch to lose in order for them to win it. But Stellies came from behind twice to beat Golden Arrows 4-3 and clinched the title.

Sundowns finished second. With a positive start against this season. Masandawana could be counted among the contenders at the end of the season.

On Saturday, Sundowns host Kaizer Chiefs at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Kick-off for that clash is at 12:00 CAT.

Notoane predicts a tough clash as he stated: "Games against Chiefs, we know each other in terms of how we play, they are more like derby matches. You know sometimes games of that magnitude tend to get ugly, like you seen in the second half (against SuperSport). But we are looking forward to a better tactical game."

This would be Sundowns' last Diski Challenge match for the year.
