Downs seek dominant double over Arrows

After bagging their seventh league title on the trot last week, Mamelodi Sundowns will hope to maintain their unbeaten run in the 2023/24 DStv Premiership campaign when they face Golden Arrows at the Mpumalanga Stadium on Wednesday night.

CURRENT FORM

Sitting in 11th place on the log, Arrows battled to find positive form in the last couple of months and last recorded victory on the 30th of March where they bagged a 2-1 win against Richards Bay at the Mpumalanga Stadium.

Since then, Abafana Bes’thende have been winless in their last five league matches, a run that included a heavy 7-1 defeat to Orlando Pirates last month.

Sundowns, on the other hand, remain unbeaten in the league and have six fixtures left to see out a potential Invincibles campaign.

The Brazilians were at their goal scoring best in their most recent league assignment, following a 5-1 victory against Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium last week.

Also, the last DStv Premiership fixture between the two sides saw Downs recorded a 4-0 win at Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium in August.

Goals by Lesiba Nku (2), Peter Shalulile and Grant Kekana were enough for the Tshwane-side to bag maximum points on home soil.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Golden Arrows: Lungelo Nguse - With Arrows void of confidence in recent weeks, Komphela and company will no doubt turn to Nguse for inspiration against the champions. The attacker is currently Arrows' leading goal scorer this season, with six goals to his name so far.

Mamelodi Sundowns: Tashreeq Matthews – The former Borussia Dortmund player has been a shining light for the Brazilians in the last couple of months after taking his tally to four goals in eight DStv Premiership encounters. Matthews's healthy return of goals in the league has been greatly appreciated by Mokwena and his charges, as Sundowns continue to flex their muscles in attack.
