Mekelakeya beat Hawassa City 2-1 in their midweek Ethiopia Premier League clash to go joint top with leaders Ethiopia Nigd Bank.

Hadiya Hossana and St George, meanwhile, played out a goalless draw in the day's second fixture.

The result puts more pressure on the Horsemen who have now gone three weeks without a win after an early lead at the start of the season.

Mekelakeya's all-star cast have been expected to explode following last season's poor showing.

Indeed, they have come alive this season and none more so than Minyilu Wondimu who has been the engine of his team.

Wondimu put the 'Defence Force' into a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute, and they managed to hold onto their advantage for the remainder of the half.

Hawassa City equalised in the 74th minute through Ali Sulieman.

However, Kenean Markeneh produced the winning goal for Mekelakeya in the 83rd minute.
