Former Liverpool coach Bill Shankly once famously said, "Some people believe football is a matter of life and death. I am very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that."

This quote perfectly captures the passion and intensity that football brings to our lives. Amidst all the emotions that come with the beautiful game, it's important to take a moment to smile and enjoy the lighter side of things.

In that spirit, supersport.com has put together a humorous list of New Year’s resolutions for the PSL clubs ahead of 2025. Here's to another fantastic year of football:

THE BIG FISH

Sundowns have been a dominant force for the past decade. With recent coaching changes, we can only hope it doesn’t mess with their winning mentality and that they can finally capture the “Big Fish” – the CAF Champions League title – a holy grail that has eluded them for a decade.

BRING BACK THE GLORY

Kaizer Chiefs is a club with a rich history, and as they say, when Chiefs win, everyone is happy – petrol prices drop, and interest rates go down. Our resolution for them is to start keeping clean sheets and winning games. As one great coach once said, strikers win you games, and defenders win you titles. It’s been a while since Chiefs had a strong defense and goalkeeper to help reclaim their glory days and perhaps save us from the high cost of living.

THE QUEST FOR THE STAR

It’s been over two decades since Orlando Pirates won the CAF Champions League. Having cemented their new title as cup kings under the tutelage of Jose Riveiro, we hope this newfound zest and hunger can translate to their continental ambitions. We resolve that the Buccaneers can finally navigate the high seas of the CAF Champions League with more victories and fewer stormy nights.

HUNT FOR WINS

In the season that coach Gavin Hunt is closing in on a milestone of 1 000 matches in charge of various teams in the PSL, we resolve for better days at SuperSport United. Matsatsantsa have been drawing matches they should be winning, and hopefully, they will turn those pesky draws into decisive wins in the new year. The return of Bradley Grobler from injury and the addition of Samir Nurkovic promise better days ahead.

WINE AND SHINE

Despite selling their best players every season, Stellenbosch is proving to be a rising force in the PSL. Having won their first-ever silverware under coach Steve Barker, they look like the dark horse in the Betway Premiership title race. Our resolution for Stellies is for them to harvest goals like fine wine and toast to every victory.

CHANGED CHIPPA

For once in many moons and seasons, Chippa United is not among the clubs that have changed coaches. Our resolution is for more stability in their coaching staff and consistency on the pitch. The football they play under Kwanele Kopo is incredible to watch – we see you, Chippa!

Here's to a year filled with goals, glory, and a lot of laughs!
