Stellenbosch coach Steve Barker says new signing Lehlogonolo Mojela has fitted in smoothly to the team after his move from TS Galaxy, having netted three goals for the club already over the last six weeks.

Mojela thrashed home a strike from a tough angle on Friday night as Stellenbosch beat the Congolese club AS Vita in the first leg of their Caf Confederation Cup second-round tie.

The 27-year-old, who began his career at TS Sporting, also scored in the first-round tie against Nsingizini Hotspurs from Eswatini plus got a goal against Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8 semifinal.

“We recognised his abilities whenever we played TS Galaxy. Just his energy, the way he presses forward, the way he presses back, his willingness to run in behind, his willingness to take a lot of pressure off other players and create pressure on the opposition,” enthused Barker, whose side have won six games in a row since the start of the new season but only kick off their Betway Premiership campaign on Wednesday when they host Lamontville Golden Arrows at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town.

“And we knew that he's a decent finisher. He's got goals in him. Besides, the three goals that he scored now, in our preseason friendlies, I think he won us four penalties.

“He's a constant menace, a player that gives defenders no time or any chance to be relaxed on the ball, because he's going to be on top of them,” said the Stellenbosch coach.

“That's the sort of energy and the type of player that I think just suits the way we play and the way we want to play.

“So, he's fitted in like a glove. And also important is that he's really a good character, always smiling, always happy, always joking. You can see that he's just loving what he's doing. Coming off a good season last season, it's just continued. So yeah, we very pleased with what he's brought to the table,” added Barker.
